Senior Manager, IS Corporate Commercial Partner

Astellas is announcing a Senior Manager, IS Corporate Commercial Partner in Northbrook, IL.


Purpose & Scope:

This role is a member of the Information Systems team supporting US Revenue Operations. This role manages Model N and related Revenue Management and Gross to Net applications, and includes responsibility for all IT operations, projects and application support. The role is responsible for initiating and maintaining relationships with business and IS teams and for developing an application roadmap that supports business needs. Assists in allocating resources and managing demand as well as all application operations. Manage employees, contractors and/or third-party vendor resources.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • May manage IT staff by recruiting, training and coaching employees, communicating job expectations and appraising their performance.
  • Accomplishes financial objectives by determining application service level required; assisting in preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective action.
  • Selects and manages vendors, contractors and/or managed service teams to deliver contracted services and meet service expectations.
  • Responsible for managing or monitoring application project delivery, leveraging established PMO methodologies. Proposes projects, provides updates and advocacy to IT and business stakeholders.
  • Meets regularly with BU team leads on:
    • Application performance and new requirements
    • Project priorities and status
    • Systems support performance and key issues
    • IS services, including infrastructure, vendor management, application performance, etc.
    • Application growth projections and capacity planning
  • Utilize personal and IS collective knowledge and documented business requirements to design, propose and implement secure solutions and services to meet customer needs while protecting Astellas assets.
  • Ensures that established IT governance methodology, standards, and practices are followed by employees, contract resources and third-party partners.
  • Develops application roadmaps to support business requirements. Contributes to IT strategy development that aligns with business strategy. Participates in project prioritization with business teams to optimize resource allocation.
  • Manage business application(s) by:
    • Operational monitoring and improvements including back up strategy, Disaster Recovery and archiving.
    • Develop and enforce release management strategy and development standards
    • Providing architectural oversight
    • Establishing and validating high quality support and reliability
    • Balancing demand for enhancements and changes with available resources
  • Proactively monitor and resolve application(s) issues, data and data load issues. Identify, establish and work with managed service providers, application publishers and data providers to ensure high data quality and reliable systems performance.
  • Leads efforts to socialize application information. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies and/or relevant conferences.
  • Pro-actively look for technology innovation


Quantitative Dimensions:

  • Manages capital and expense budgets up to $5MUSD.
  • Manages a portfolio of projects related to an application and publishes a three-year roadmap.
  • 1 to 10 employees, 1 to 40 temp/contractors.


Organizational Context:

  • This role reports to a Manager or Director role in a Shared Services IS Organization.
  • This role may provide direction to a managed service provider, temporary labor or consultant teams as well as 1 - 10 employees.
  • This role aligns with application stakeholders, IS stakeholders and third-party liaisons.




  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Business.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience of enterprise application operations management required, with demonstrated progress in managing projects/applications of increasing size and complexity.
  • 5 year experience and strong understanding of one or more ERP or Financial applications and it's functions, related data sets, integration methodology and support approaches. Understands the industry landscape for this type of application and tools to establish and measure KPIs and benchmarks.
  • 5 years' experience managing employees and/or vendors and/or managed service providers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required, with ability to interact with application owners and users. Must be able to translate between technical requirements and business requirements to effectively achieve results.
  • Ability to adapt and respond effectively to change, delay and or shifting priorities and goals.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and to aggressively drive project milestones to successful completion.
  • Attention to detail, effective problem solver, assertive decision maker, facilitator and communicator.
  • 10% - 20% travel required.



  • 2-5 years' experience managing Revenue Management or Contract Management applications and operations.
  • Pharma Industry Experience  2-4 years' experience in Government Pricing processes, Medicaid Rebate Processing, Managed Care and/or Chargebacks and the upstream flow of data to/from Contracting and related systems (e.g. SAP).
