Astellas is announcing a Research Scientist I opportunity at their new affiliate Mitobridge in Cambridge, MA.



Mitobridge is seeking a highly motivated lab based scientist with experience in drug discovery and protein biochemistry to join our Exploratory Biology group. The primary focus of this role is to conduct high quality bench research using a variety of biochemical and cellular assays to contribute to our drug discovery efforts from exploratory through lead identification and optimization.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and perform biochemical and cellular experiments for identification and detailed characterization of small molecule screening hits and optimized compounds,
  • Provide scientific input into the target pipeline.
  • Implement studies using external (CRO) resources.
  • Work proactively in dealing with technical problems and work independently of detailed supervision,
  • Accurately interpret experimental data, perform statistical analysis, formulate conclusions and communicate data with colleagues and externally.
  • Collaborate with other members of the research team,
  • Present their work at regular department meetings.


Quantitative Dimensions:

This position directly impacts our ability to prosecute our company goals of maintaining an early stage pipeline of potential drug candidates. The measures of success are the advancement of early stage projects through the successive stages of the drug discovery pipeline. Their components are

  • Contributing input into work flow of biochemistry experiments designed to advance early stage projects
  • Planning optimal experimental designs to answer specific questions using the most appropriate available technology
  • Efficient and technically competent execution and interpretation of lab work
  • Maintenance of accurate and up to date records of experimental data
  • Presentation of data in context at regular internal meetings
  • Maintain an awareness of current literature on both technological and scientific aspects of projects in which they are involved





  • PhD degree in biochemistry or related area with 0-2 years of drug discovery experience, or MS degree with 5+ years of experience
  • Prior experience with quantitative enzyme assays including classical determination of KD, Km and kinetic properties
  • Prior experience with biochemical and cell-based assay development to support compound identification and optimization
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately interpret experimental data, formulate conclusions and communicate data
  • Ability to work productively and communicate effectively in a collaborative and cross-functional team environment
  • Team player with strong written and oral communication skills



  • Experience in drug discovery setting
