| Description |
The Senior Architect operates in a complex Research &Development environment with high levels of accountability where ease of access & analysis of vital data is paramount to the discovery of new drugs within the regulated pharmaceutical industry. This role will deliver key architecture skills in the areas of greatest impact, maximizing the benefit of the unique domain skills and technical expertise. The role will also oversee the measurement, assessment and proactive communication of the performance of the North-American practice to facilitate continuous improvement of performance. This role will also help capacity planning and utilisation for a specific delivery team to support the achievement of operational plans within budget. Accountabilities & Responsibilities The Senior Architect will ensure that all architecture decisions support both business and IS strategy, and that architectures delivered are compliant with relevant AZ architecture standards, blueprints and roadmaps. The role will assess and review the work of both Business and Solution architecture and create a balance between the immediate and the strategic. The role holder will 1. Maintain a view of the current and future state (1-3 year) architecture within a defined architecture focus area. 2. Understand implications of IT architecture requirements to 'As-Is' architectures and define/update 'To-Be' architectures applying AZ architecture guiding principles. 3. Develop Architecture Building Blocks to support implementation of Enterprise Architecture in the specific area. 4. Support solution development efforts originating from portfolios, participate in IT initiatives and provide active guidance and value for better planning and decision making. 5. Be accountable for the development of architecture blueprints, roadmaps and standards for one or more architecture focus areas. 6. Indirect objective/task setting for R&D Architects in North America Experience required Successful candidates will have expertise spanning all architecture layers (technology, applications, information and business process) and will have previously interacted across several areas of an enterprise with business leaders and the IS teams that support them. Essentially they must be able to demonstrate the successful delivery of tangible outcomes with significant business value, i.e. they will be practical as well as strategic, able to create visions and ensure they are delivered. Candidates will have demonstrated * delivery (definition and implementation) of an Architecture roadmap within an industry (taking ownership and driving end to end) using an industry standard methodology (e.g. TOGAF) * current insight, knowledge and experience in delivering tangible business value through Information & System Architecture at an enterprise level for an industry * The ability to speak with informed authority about external industry standards and blueprints (values and challenges) * Broad understanding of the key technologies in use and emerging for the R&D segment of AZ target architecture * Line management capability (5+) and developing both direct and indirect reports * Experience of working and leading in a global organisation with complex/geographical context * Experience of building business area strategy * Experience of leading teams in a matrix organisation * Strong communication, influencing and negotiating skills, operating to VP level * Strong relationship and team building skills Background * Bachelors degree in Computer Science with 15+ years experience in software solutions delivery with 5+ years as enterprise/business architect * Degree or experience in life sciences is a plus Soft competencies * Leads negotiations across teams, business units and with external parties on major regional / global negotiations to achieve a positive outcome whilst taking into account the needs of others; effectively manages the ambiguity, scale and complexity of negotiation situations in various areas. * Coaches and supports others to deliver complex messages on difficult topics both clearly and credibly with widely varied internal & external audiences, using varied communication systems and strategies. * Is sought out as a key facilitator to support communication between virtual teams and stakeholders (internal and external) that may span organizational boundaries. * Successfully overcomes negotiation stalemates and conflicts to find solutions that deliver results. * Provides clear explanations behind long and short-term business value/implications of solution and service decisions for AstraZeneca. * Problem solving/Internal Consultancy Proven experience in a significant number of the following technical domains * Integration technologies (e.g. SOA, ETL) * Process Modelling (BPMN) * Information Modelling (e.g. Enterprise Architect, System Architect) * Software architecture (.Net and/or J2EE) * Enterprise architecture tools (including Asset management) (e.g. TROUX, Essential) * Enterprise Content Management (e.g. Documentum, Sharepoint) * Analytical tools (e.g. Tibco Spotfire, SAS, Business Objects) * Collaboration tools (e.g. MS OneNote) * Database architecture (e.g. Oracle) Location * North American R&D hub Waltham Massachusetts
